Ted Book serves as a Christian artist and a high school art teacher. He was born and
raised just outside of Lancaster, PA. He is a 1990 graduate of Lancaster
Mennonite High School and a 1995 graduate of Penn State University where he earned
a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Visual Arts with a concentration in sculpture and a minor in
Business. He earned his teaching certification in Art Education in 2006 from Millersville
University. In 2015, he earned his Master's of Art in Art Education from
Messiah University. He served as both the Middle School and High School Art Teacher
in the Millersburg Area School District from 2006 - 2014 and as the High School Art
Teacher from 2014 to the present. He lives in Millersburg, PA with his wife
Gina. They have two sons, Kyle and Kadin and a daughter Kenna.
During his completion of the Master’s program at Messiah University, he had a
revelation of how ceramics, light and the barrel firing process reveal how the ultimate
Creator views us. It was through this revelation that the business, Vessels of Light, was
started. This business allows him to create and sell unique ceramic lamps. He has
shown his art and shared this revelation in numerous galleries and art shows around
central Pennsylvania. We, the "vessel" may be blemished, cracked, worn and marred.
However, the beautiful light of Christ can still shine through and illuminate the darkness
around us. We are able to house and showcase that beautiful light of Jesus, regardless
of our defects and imperfections. In the darkness, the focus is more on the light than the
piece itself.
Do you need some encouragement on how God views you? Ted will
be demonstrating the creation of pottery and speaking about how we as Christians
relate to clay vessels. He will use his potter’s wheel to exhibit how the bible reveals the
Creator’s love for us. We were made from dust, formed by His hand, perfect.
